One of the many books that we read to Cheebu is “Danny and the Dinosaur“. The story is about a little boy Danny who goes to the museum and among the many things that he sees there, he is most fascinated by the dinosaur and wishes that he had one to play with. The dinosaur in turn thinks that it would be nice to play with Danny and they set out together on a wonderful adventure together playing, helping people, visiting the zoo… The book is informative as well as fun read for little children. This is one of Cheebu’s favorite books and though she can’t read yet, she loves going through the illustrations pretending to read it.
So, one day we thought why not make the book come alive. We had a cutout of a little boy who could be Danny and decided to make the dinosaur. Few months back we had seen Mr. Maker on Cbeebies make a dinosaur which was very simple. We used some old newspapers, one half of a spherical gems container, some tissue paper, googly eyes, fevicol, some sticky tape and paint.
So here is the dinosaur assembled together… its neck, tail and legs are made of rolled up newspaper while the body is made of the spherical gems container. Here we are applying fevicol and sticking pieces of tissue onto the dinosaur.
We then left it to dry for a few hours. Cheebu then painted it yellow and we stuck the Googly eyes. This is how it looked finally
The background landscape is drawn and colored by Cheebu 🙂 It was fun to bring the book to life and Cheebu was delighted with the result.
It was fun bringing to life a story that we love by this simple craft. We hope to do so with more stories 🙂
